Honeywell Thermostat Q682C Users Manual

Honeywell Thermostat Q682C PREPARATION

  • Check thermostat and subbase (it used) suitability for the heating or heating/cooling system Refer to Table
  • Assemble tools requireet flat blade screwdriver, hand or power drill with 3/16 in. drill bit , wire cutter/ stripper or sharp knife, bubble level or plumb bob and line
  • If subbase or walio ate is mounted on a vertical outlet box order the optional 193121A Cover Plate Assembly (includes cover plate, adapter ring, and screws)
  • Ensure power is off to the heating or heating! cooling system at the main fuse panel. Most buildings have a separate swiich box or circuit breaker for dis- connecting power to the heating and cooling (if appli- cable) equipment.

THIS Honeywell Q682C THERMOSTAT is compatible with virtually all heat- ing or heating/cooling systems. See Table 1 for addi- tional thermostat compatibility iniormation.

Honeywell Thermostat and System Compatibility

TYPE OF HEATING SYSTEM TO BE CONTROLLED

CONDITIONS/COMPATIBILITY

Electric (line voltage) typical baseboard and radiant

  • The R823901015 Isolating Relay or R841 Silent Switching Center must be installed in the thermostat control circuit a

Electric Furnace_forced air

  • Compatible. Ensure correct subbase identity selected for fan control,

Gas-Direct Spark Ignition (DSI), Intermittent Pllot (IP),
and Standing Pilot (SP)

  • Compatible. Ensure that the 24 V control transformer common is accessible for connection to thermostat cable conductor and power to transformer is not reg- ularly interrupted by high temperature or limit operation.

Heat Pump

  • Compatible. Ensure correct subbase identity selected for fan control and changeover control (O terminal for cool and B terminal for heat).

  • if system with first stage heat pump and gas or oil second stage heat, use conventional recovery models.

  • If system with first stage heat pump and electric second stage heat use ramp recovery model.

Hot Water Zone

  •  Honeywell 2-wire valves are compatible.

  • Some non-Honeywell 2-wire valves will require a R823901015 Isolating Relay in the thermostat control circuit a

  • Some 3-wire valves will require an R8239A1052 so- lating Relay in the thermostat contro circuit a b

Oil

  • Ensure that the 24 V control transformer conmon is accessible for connection to thermostat cable con- ductor and power to transformer is not regularly Interrupted by high temperature, purge cycle, or limit operation

  • If the control transformer commor is not accessible, a separate transformer and TRADELNE wallolate or

Vent Damper

  • Honeywell damper motors are compatible

  • Some non-Honeywell damper motors will require an R823901015 Isolating Relay in the thermostat control circuita Check control amperage regu retieni.

Warm Air Zone

  • Most are compatible.

If thermo seat is noI c omp atibie wi th the syslem being coniroiled, the system will not operate. No hazard exists. The therm ostat will no t be damaged unless it is used to directly con trol a line voItage syslem. A Honeywell R84I or R8239 D1015 Isolating Relay must be added to the thermostat control circuit for proper system operation

LOCATE NEW THERMOSTAT

Locate thermostat about 5 ft. [1.6 m] above the flooor in an area with good air circulation at average temperature. Do not mount the thermostat where it may be affected by

  • drafis, or dead spo ts behind doors and in corners.
  • hat or cold air from ducts.
  • radiant heat from the sun or appliances.
  • concealed pipes and chimneys.
  • unheated (uncooled) areas behind the lhermostat, such as an outside wall.

Illustrations show termostat models that have conventional recovery from heating setback (except when noted).

  • Handle new thermostat carefully; rough handling may interfere with itas accuracy. Before unpacking, refer to Fig. 1
  • Remove and discard shipping warp. IMPORTANT: Save package of screws, instructions, and spare program pins and ramp recovery segments
  • Remove thermostat cover by liffting from bottom. Set asides cover until called for later
  • Carefully remove material protecting mercury switch bulb
  • Loosen 2 captive mounting screws and separate wallpltae (if provided) from back of thermostat base.
